Marine Cargo & Hull Cover for Caribbean Operators

Vessels, cargo, and liability: the essentials of marine insurance for businesses moving goods and people across the region.

Marine risk does not fit neatly into a single policy. Hull, cargo, and liability each answer a different exposure, and the costly gaps appear where an operator assumes one cover does the work of all three.

We work with vessel owners, charter operators, and importers across the region to map those exposures and structure cover that holds at every leg of the voyage.

Three covers that rarely travel together

Hull and machinery protects the vessel itself. Cargo protects the goods in transit. Protection and indemnity, known as P and I, carries the third-party liabilities, including crew injury, collision, pollution, and wreck removal, that hull cover largely excludes.

Treat them as one and a gap appears at the worst moment: a collision claim that hull only partly answers, or cargo that nobody insured because each party assumed the other had.

The core marine covers

Hull & machinery

Physical loss or damage to the vessel and its machinery.

Cargo

Goods in transit by sea, and often the connecting land legs, against the perils of the voyage.

Protection & Indemnity (P&I)

The third-party liabilities a hull policy excludes: crew, collision, pollution, and wreck removal.

General average

A maritime principle where every party to a voyage shares the cost of a deliberate sacrifice made to save the venture. Cargo cover responds to your contribution.

Incoterms decide who bears the risk at each stage of a sale. We map that chain so cover is neither doubled up nor missing, and so a cargo loss always has a clear policy to answer it.

A vessel can be fully insured and still leave its owner exposed. The question is never just what floats, but who is liable when something goes wrong.

The Tomlin Risk Team Marine

Whether you run a single charter vessel or move containers on a schedule, the right structure starts with mapping every exposure across the voyage and matching each one to the cover built for it.

Marine cover FAQ

Does hull cover include third-party liability?

Only partly. Collision liability is often limited under a hull policy; P and I carries the broader third-party exposures.

Is cargo cover my responsibility or the shipper’s?

It depends on the Incoterms of the sale. We map who bears the risk at each leg so cover is not doubled up or missing.

Do I need P and I for a small vessel?

If you carry crew or passengers, or operate near other craft and coastline, third-party exposure is real at any size. We scale the cover to the operation.
